Final

Seeing Through

As we have been learning and making, my mind would often be directed to the commercial means of creating fibers and fabrics. I looked at my attempts to knit, crochet, spindle, etc and saw imperfection. I noticed others would comment on their own mistakes and flaws as well. In my thinking, I realized how our perspectives have changed in view of these arts and crafts. In a way, it has changed the way I view the world. Thus in this final artwork I created a self-portrait diptych through the lens of fibers. On the left I used one of my own pieces from this class as a filter to photograph myself. On the right I used a commercially produced fabric as a filter to photograph myself. They are similar and different. As I have studied them, I do not favor one over the other, but I enjoy the subtle differences.

The finals for this course are displayed in an exhibition located on the 3rd floor of the JKB.
